The CMS-3 uses an electrochemical sensor to detect CO. Upon detection, the gas reacts in the sensor and produces a current proportional to the concentration of CO. Amplified by circuitry, the current converts to a measurement, which is displayed on the liquid crystal display (LCD). At 10ppm, monitor sounds, flashes, and vibrates to alert operator of danger. Battery life is estimated at 3000 hours; sensor wear life is estimated to be 2 years.
